Another one bites the dust

This is sapote and chermoya at the downtown Oxnard farmers market, one of the longer-running markets where it’s always a fiesta on Thursdays at Plaza Park.

The farmers market at The Collection is suspended for the season (right before the holidays???). Raw Inspiration, the big LA-area farmers market managing company based in Calabasas says the market will be back in the spring.

The Port Hueneme farmers market, also managed by Raw Inspiration, is also struggling.

Farmers markets are a tough business. There is a finite number of farmers and produce, which means there cannot be an unlimited number of markets.

It’s a slow process building a market, but when farmers markets became fashionable people thought they could slap  one down anywhere. And many have failed.
